Abstract

Green entrepreneurship is a modern approach to business that integrates environmental responsibility with economic progress. Unlike conventional entrepreneurs who focus primarily on maximizing profits, green entrepreneurs aim to balance financial viability with ecological preservation and social well-being. Eco-innovation, on the other hand, serves as the technological and organizational foundation for sustainable business practices. The present study is based on the collection of data from secondary sources. Secondary data is collected from various published and unpublished records, books, magazines, and journals. The study suggests that future research should focus on sector-specific case studies and regional analysis to understand how green entrepreneurship and eco-innovation can be implemented effectively in different contexts. The study concludes that green entrepreneurship and eco-innovation are essential drivers of sustainable development, as they integrate economic growth with environmental responsibility and social well- being. Continuous monitoring and updating of practices will also be essential, as sustainability is an evolving field that requires constant innovation.

Priyadharshini, B., and Samuel, G. K. (2025). A Study on Integration of Renewable Energy in MSME Production Practices in Thoothukudi District. B-Digest, 17(2), 8-11.

Abstract

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, represent a dynamic and growing industrial ecosystem encompassing manufacturing, food processing, chemicals, and component production. However, high energy costs, environmental regulations, and the initiatives to reduce carbon emissions are driving these enterprises to reconsider conventional energy sources. This study examines the feasibility, effectiveness, and impact of integrating renewable energy solutions, particularly rooftop solar, wind energy, and hybrid systems, into the energy mix of MSMEs in Thoothukudi. Preliminary findings indicate that rooftop solar installations (10–100 kW scale) yield a payback period of approximately 4–6 years, aligning with observations from broader Indian MSME sectors in Industrial Automation Magazine. Furthermore, the adoption of hybrid models leveraging Thoothukudi's wind potential could enhance energy reliability and production stability. Despite financial and infrastructural constraints, government incentives like the PEACE energy audit subsidy and support through Energy Management Centres (EMCs) can significantly reduce upfront costs and support implementation.

The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative insights gathered through surveys and interviews with MSME owners and managers in Thoothukudi. Quantitative data will be collected through structured surveys distributed among a sample of MSMEs, focusing on metrics such as website traffic, social media engagement, and sales figures before and after the implementation of digital marketing strategies. Qualitative data will be gathered through in-depth interviews to understand the challenges, opportunities, and perceptions of MSMEs regarding digital marketing.

Abstract

In the era of climate change and sustainability concerns, higher educational institutions are increasingly viewed as hubs for nurturing green values, entrepreneurial skills, and eco-innovative practices. Human Resources Management (HRM) plays a pivotal role in shaping policies, practices, and a culture that encourages sustainable entrepreneurship among faculty and students. This study explores how HRM functions such as green recruitment, training and development, performance appraisal, and employee/student engagement contribute to the promotion of green entrepreneurship in HEIs. The research emphasizes the role of HRM in integrating sustainability into academic and administrative frameworks, thereby equipping faculty with the knowledge to foster green business models and motivating students to pursue eco-friendly entrepreneurial ventures. By adopting sustainable HRM practices, institutions can create an enabling environment for innovation, collaboration, and environmental responsibility. The findings highlight that HRM- driven initiatives such as green skill development workshops, eco-innovation labs, and incentive structures significantly enhance awareness and participation in green entrepreneurship. This study contributes to the growing literature on sustainable HRM and underscores its importance in building a new generation of environmentally conscious entrepreneurs emerging from higher education.

Abstract

In today's dynamic economic landscape, entrepreneurship is increasingly viewed as a strategic career choice among youth. Understanding the factors that shape entrepreneurial intention is crucial, especially among college students poised to enter the workforce. This study investigates entrepreneurial motivation among college students in Palayamkottai City, Tamil Nadu, focusing on internal drivers such as personal interest and external influences like financial incentives and social environment. Primary data was collected from 75 students using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through percentage analysis, weighted average, and Garrett ranking methods. Results reveal that 93.3% of students expressed interest in entrepreneurship, with “Growth Opportunities” and “Higher Income & Benefits” being the top motivators. E-commerce was the most preferred business sector, followed by retail and education. However, several challenges such as limited access to capital, insufficient mentorship, and low awareness of government support schemes remain significant barriers. The study recommends integrating entrepreneurship education into academic curricula, increasing access to financial resources, and promoting digital and export-oriented ventures. These findings offer practical implications for educators, policymakers, and incubation centers aiming to foster a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem in semi-urban and developing regions.

Abstract

Social entrepreneurship is a new and emerging concept, which deals with social welfare and profit-earning practice. Social entrepreneurs work for a dual purpose, business having a profit orientation, in socially beneficial activities. Moreover, in developing countries like India, rural social entrepreneurial ventures hold great importance. According to the Global Competitiveness Report 2016-17, India stands at 39th position among 138 countries, and as per the World Competitiveness Index for 2018, India has been ranked as the 58th most competitive economy from the list of 140 countries. The proportion of early-stage entrepreneurs (18 - 44 age groups) is significantly high. India is basically a factor-driven economy. As per the study, there are approximately 2 million social entrepreneurial ventures in India, out of which 53% are engaged in skills development activities, 30% in education, 28% in agriculture/fisheries/dairy, 26% in financial services and 26% in energy and clean technology. Therefore, it becomes significant to study the attributes possessed by social entrepreneurs and their leadership traits. Considering the same, the area for the study is chosen with the deeper understanding with special reference to Tirunelveli.
