Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is evolving in all fields, including medicine and dentistry. It is mostly used in diagnosis, patient management, and minor surgery. A survey was carried out by the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, VMSDC Salem, to assess the awareness levels about ArtificialIntelligence among dental students. A validated questionnaire was circulated among 323 dental students. The results were collected and analyzed using SPSS Windows version 25. The response from the participants was positive, with the majority of them stating that AI is the future of dentistry and should be included in the curriculum. It was concluded that the participants had limited knowledge about Artificial Intelligence and its scope. However, when implemented in the academic syllabus, it would allow dental students to explore this new arena.

Abstract

Zirconia is a popular material in dentistry for full arch restorations due to its excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and aesthetic appeal. It is a strong and durable ceramic material that resists fractures, making it ideal for full arch restorations. Its biocompatibility minimizes irritation to surrounding tissues and promotes oral health. Moreover, zirconia's tooth-colored appearance closely resembles natural teeth, improving the overall esthetics of the restoration.Zirconia full arch restorations are fabricated using a combination of CAD/CAM technology and conventional techniques. A digital impression of the patient's arch is taken, which is used to design the restoration using specialized software. The design is then converted into a physical model through milling or 3D printing, and the zirconia framework is customized to fit the patient's arch.Zirconia offers exceptional strength for full arch restorations, allowing for thin and lightweight yet durable restorations. This minimizes the need for aggressive tooth reduction, preserving natural tooth structure. Additionally, zirconia's resistance to chipping and wear ensures longevity and reduces the risk of restoration failure. When using zirconia for full arch restorations, certain considerations are necessary. Zirconia's high rigidity and limited flexibility can transmit excessive forces to supporting teeth or implants, risking fractures or implant failure. Evaluating occlusion and functional movements is crucial to avoid such issues. Moreover, zirconia's opacity may make achieving optimal esthetics challenging, especially in cases with thin or translucent gingival tissues.Zirconia is a promising material for full arch restorations, providing excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and esthetic appeal. Its combination with CAD/CAM technology enables precise customization and efficient fabrication. However, successful outcomes require careful case selection, occlusal considerations, and attention to esthetic factors. Ongoing research and advancements in zirconia technology are anticipated to further improve its suitability and broaden its application in full arch restorations.

Abstract

The primary objective of this paper is to explore the diverse range of radiographic imaging techniques available for implant diagnosis and treatment planning. Pre-placement examination heavily relies on the utilization of these imaging modalities, as they play a critical role in ensuring the success of dental implant restorations by providing comprehensive diagnostic information about the patient's orofacial bony structures. Advancements in radiographic imaging have revolutionized the field of implant dentistry, offering dental professionals a wide array of imaging options to assess and plan implant procedures accurately. Having access to a variety of radiographic imaging techniques empowers dental practitioners to make well-informed decisions during implant treatment planning. It ensures that the implant procedure is tailored to the patient's unique anatomy and increases the chances of long-term success for dental implant restorations.

Abstract

Pacifiers play a crucial role in infant care and soothing behaviors, and their use has been a subject of extensive research. This literature review aims to synthesize the existing body of knowledge on pacifiers and their impact on various aspects of infant development and well-being. Through an analysis of relevant studies, the review examines the effects of pacifier use on breastfeeding practices, oral health, sleep patterns, and emotional regulation in infants. Additionally, the review explores the potential benefits and risks associated with pacifier usage, considering factors such as age, duration of use, and weaning strategies. By consolidating and evaluating the findings from diverse studies, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of the implications of pacifiers on infants, aiding caregivers, healthcare professionals, and parents in making informed decisions regarding their use.

Abstract

The case report included here describes a successful implant insertion and, six years later, the presentation of a permanent prosthesis case. A 13-year-old boy experienced a traumatic dental injury during a playful altercation with his classmate in the classroom. The boy was examined by a dentist, who took an OPG and recommended extraction of the fractured right maxillary central incisor. The dentist also suggested an implant prosthesis for both the right and left incisors, as they were avulsed as a result of the same injury. Since the fractured right central incisor was severely mobile, the decision was made to extract it and plan for an implant prosthesis for both central incisors. After thoroughly studying the recommendations and cautions outlined in the aforementioned articles, approximately a week later, two implants were inserted, one on each side. These implants had a diameter of 3.3mm and a length of 10mm. Although ensuring that the initial stability was satisfactory, one of the implant fixtures came loose, and a temporary crown was placed on the other one. However, it also came out because implants were ordered from a turner who manufactured them using a manual lathe. Subsequently, implants with a 3.4mm diameter were requested and affixed in the prepared osteotomy. A heatcured acrylic crown was fabricated and placed. The patient would visit regularly every six months, inquiring about the permanent crown. However, it was always postponed. Finally, when he turned 19 years old and was in his first year of engineering, he insisted on receiving the permanent crowns. Consequently, exactly six years after the initial insertion, the permanent Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) crown was provided to him.
