Abstract

The Research aims at finding out the relation between female children's eating disorders and their mothers' general health and nutrition attitude. The research is a descriptive study of a correlation type. The data gathered is by the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), and the Eating Disorder Inventory Questionnaire (EDI- 64). The data gathered were analyzed through Correlation test and multivariate regression with SPSS 19 Software. High schools of Gonbad Kavoos town in IRAN in year 2012-2013. 250 female students and their mothers were selected through cluster random sampling. The results showed that all components of mothers' general health and nutrition attitude had a significant relationship with female children's overeating. Furthermore, it was revealed that all components of mothers' general health and nutrition attitude had significant relations with slimness tendency in female children. Accordingly, except for physical symptoms and sleep disorder, other components of general health and nutrition attitudes had significant relations with female children's body dissatisfaction. Result of the study conclude, that the family's status of general health, specifically that of the mother as well as the family members' nutrition attitudes can be effective on children's body forms and their dietary.

Abstract

Cardiac Catheterization is one of the procedures for the diagnosis of coronary artery diseases. Nurses play an important role in taking care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and safety is the prime concern of nurses. A methodological study was conducted in Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiology Units of Advance Cardiac Centre in a tertiary care hospital of north India during the year 2011-12 to develop a valid and reliable Nursing Checklist in order to ensure safety for patients undergoing Cardiac Catheterization and evaluate its usability. Cardiac Catheterization Nursing Checklist (CCNC) was developed in five phases. In the first preliminary phase, a rough draft of 90-items was prepared. During second phase, content validation was done by 9 experts using three rounds of Delphi technique. In the third phase, a pilot study was conducted on 5 subjects to check its feasibility. Checklist was modified based on findings of pilot study, and again content was validated by 9 experts using fourth round of Delphi technique. During fourth phase, checklist was administered on 40 subjects by two observers to check Inter-rater reliability. In the final phase, checklist was administered on 60 patients undergoing cardiac catheterization to check its internal consistency and construct validation. To evaluate usability of checklist, opinion of all staff including doctors and nurses working in the Cardiac units (N=15) was sought by using 5-items opinionnaire. The statistics such as Cohen's Kappa coefficient, Cronbach's alpha, exploratory factor analysis, item total correlation was applied to check its reliability and validity. Usability of checklist was measured by calculating mean score and agreement percentage. The item total correlation coefficient ranged from 0.45 to 0.95. Six factors under three dimensions (CCNC-92 items) were singled out after factor analysis. Correlations between different factors were partially confirmed showing convergent validity. Overall reliability/internal consistency (Cronbach's α) of the CCNC was found 0.88, varied from 0.60-0.88. Mean score of staff regarding usability of checklist was 3.6 with average agreement of 73%. Results of the study demonstrated that CCNC is a multidimensional, valid and reliable tool. It can be used in day to day clinical practice to ensure safety for patients undergoing Cardiac Catheterization in a tertiary care hospital. Further studies need to be conducted on a large sample in different settings for generalization.

Abstract

Value clarification through self-awareness is one of the essential components for nurses to maintain a therapeutic relationship with their clients. This paper explores an issue related to nurses' value conflict that hinders therapeutic communication and nurse-patient relationship with mentally-ill patients. This paper presents a case scenario of a mentally-ill client who suffered from the judgmental attitude of the nurse due to nurse's value conflict, lack of acceptance, lack of respect and unnecessary intrusion in client's personal boundary. Thus, a therapeutic nurse-client relationship can be initiated and maintained if nurses' reflect critically, clarify their values and use therapeutic communication skills. Some of the therapeutic techniques is used like developing empathy, accepting, respecting the way the client is, may enhance the nurses' interaction with their clients and may help in promoting their mental health. Finally this paper concludes key learning from the scenario by recommending some strategies to overcome this issue at individual, institutional and national level.

Abstract

Case Studies had been always used as a teaching strategy and it has been defined as an explanation of real life situations confronted by a person or persons in an organization of any kind.
