A Compact Dual Band Hexagon Rectangular Shaped Monopole Antenna for WiMAX and WLAN Applications

Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a compact dual-band hexagon-rectangular shaped monopole antenna optimized for WiMAX and WLAN applications of the size 29 × 38 × 0.8 mm3. The proposed antenna operates efficiently within two distinct frequency ranges: 2.7 GHz to 3.2 GHz and 4.0 GHz to 5.1 GHz, addressing the needs of both WiMAX and WLAN systems. The antenna achieves bandwidths of 16.67% and 25.58% for the respective frequency bands, ensuring reliable performance and wide coverage for high-speed wireless communication. The design process involves meticulous optimization of the hexagon-rectangular monopole geometry to achieve the desired dual-band characteristics, compact size, and effective impedance matching. The fabricated antenna is tested, and the measured results demonstrate excellent agreement with the simulated performance, validating the design approach. The proposed antenna's compact form factor and robust performance make it an ideal candidate for integration into modern wireless communication devices, providing enhanced connectivity and efficient spectrum utilization. This study offers valuable insights into the development of dual-band antennas for emerging wireless communication standards, contributing to the advancement of compact and efficient antenna technologies for next-generation communication systems.
