Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most aggressive cancers. The probability of five-year survival expectancy is inversely proportional to the time difference between the onset of the disease and its detection. Some malignant tumors are sensitive to staining materials such as toluidine blue. These staining materials are used to stain and mark the area encroached by the cancer cells for visual examination. This paper presents a review of the in-vivo staining materials and their effectiveness in marking malignant and pre-malignant lesions. Also, it presents a study on various in-vivo imaging techniques used as adjuncts for the detection of oral malignancy.
