Agriculture in India, a key sector of the economy, serves as the primary source of livelihood for nearly two-thirds of the workforce in the country. The contribution of agriculture and allied activities to India's economic growth in recent years has been no less significant than that of industry and services. The importance of agriculture to the country is best summed up by this statement: "If agriculture survives, India survives". It is the most important sector in terms of providing employment and reducing poverty. This paper examines the determinants of motivational factors towards rubber cultivation with special reference to Kanyakumari district, a southern district of Tamil Nadu. A focused interview schedule was prepared and administered to 250 sample respondents directly involved in rubber cultivation.
