HyFlex is the new model that has emerged in education, combining traditional classroom instruction with online instruction and thus offering learners more flexibility and freedom in their learning lifecycle. This paper discusses its background, principles, benefits, challenges, and whether it can transform higher education. Based on the analysis of current literature and case studies, we discuss HyFlex as a means for ensuring both educational quality and engagement within responses to the diverse needs of contemporary student populations. We thereby discuss implications on instructors, institutions, and educational policy in the circumstances for its implementation and prospects in an increasingly digital and flexible educational environment.
