Abstract

In a country like Nigeria, which do not have sustainable generation of electricity for its daily use, diesel or petrol generators are used as an alternative, which are expensive and environment unfriendly, and need frequent or regular maintenance. Without reliable energy infrastructure and renewable energy sources, agricultural productivity suffers. . In this research, a multiplex energy dispatch management, viz. Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES) has been proposed to solve the problem of power crisis in the country with the case study of Twins Dairy Farm. Most farm sites contain a wealth of crop and animal waste, which are useful resources for biomass/biogas. Also, the roofs of buildings are suitable for installation of solar panels, and small wind turbines. The principal objective of this proposed study is the possibility of utilizing such resources present in farms to satisfy the energy needs of the agricultural community. A comprehensive network study was carried out with the utilization of biogas, solar photovoltaic panels, thermal energy from the sunshine, diesel, and battery systems. The intention has been to minimize the capital cost for HRES and the operating cost depends on the energy demand of the farm.
