Satya Narayana Journal on Software Engineering 2230 – 7168 3 1 66 71 Authentication, Graphical password, Shoulder surfing attack In general, alphanumeric passwords are used for remote user authentication. But, these are vulnerable to security and usability problems. To solve these problems, wei-chi-ku et. al. proposed “Remote user authentication scheme using strong Graphical passwords” which are not resistant to shoulder-surfing attack, a critical problem of graphical passwords. This paper presents a Dynamic ID-based remote user authentication scheme which is resistant to shoulder surfing attack and it also achieves mutual authentication. This paper also makes a comparison of usability and security aspects of the proposed scheme with wei-chi-ku et al. scheme. July - September 2008 Copyright © 2008 i-manager publications.
