This paper provides a critical review of the gerotranscendence theory, its significance, and relevance towards positive aging, work, retirement and volunteerism, and end of life among older adults in the light of current literature evidences. Gerotranscendence theory embraces the psychological, spiritual, and philosophical dimensions of aging and has been successfully used both in western and eastern contexts. The paper also provides the implications of gerotranscendence theory to help nurses formulate effective interventions for providing quality care to the older adults in geriatric settings.
