Fallout, Hard Times, Workforce
It was a hot July afternoon in 2008 when Josh Lewis, a software developer at WinniTech Solutions, received an email invitation for a company-wide meeting that was to start momentarily. He thought the short notice to be very unusual, and turned to look at a colleague, Thomas. With an overtly confused look on his face, Josh managed to haltingly say, “What's going on?” The meeting room was soon deluged with 60 confused stares as WinniTech announced that, due to an array of factors, several measures had to be undertaken to reduce costs to an acceptable level to help the company regain its footing. The management representatives delivered the plans in a slow and painful fashion. Blow by blow, waves of emotion passed through the employees as they listened. They tried with great effort to hide their disappointment, to little avail.
