JIC_V3_N4_RP1 Fuzzy Back-Propagation Network Based Controller for Power Quality Improvement Using UPQC V. Veera Nagi Reddy D.V. Ashok Kumar K. Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is a custom power device, that consists of series and shunt converters connected back to back and deals with supply voltage and load current imperfections i.e., mitigates voltage sags, reduces harmonics and balance the loads. The UPQC is isolated to energy storage using multi-level topology. The Back Propagation Algorithm (BPA) based fuzzy control is described to generate gating pulses for cascaded H- bridge inverter. The reference source currents for Power Factor Correction (PFC) and Zero Voltage Regulation (ZVR) is estimated by extracting the fundamental value of weighted active and reactive power components of load currents under nonlinear loads. The proposed controller adopts itself to mitigate voltage sags, eliminate harmonics and balance loads at the utility end. Simulations are carried out using Matlab/Simulink.
