The automotive industry is witnessing a fast transition from partially automated driving - involving continuous human monitoring of automatic functions, to highly automated driving that require drivers monitoring only when called for. Among the various methods available for street monitoring, only radar can operate in all weather conditions, which makes it the eye of an autonomous vehicle. This paper explains the progress in automotive radar technology and mentions the possibility of integrating automotive radar with future intelligent transport system.
